Tools required
The tools required for assembling your plane include the following. I think you’ll find that you probably have most of these already, but if you don’t, it gives you a good opportunity to place an order with your favourite tool supplier. We all like buying tools don’t we?
- Hacksaw + fine tooth blade (32 or 24 Tpi).
- Smooth cut file (8 – 10”).
- Smooth cut file – to be modified for filing compound dovetails – details on this are included in the instruction manual included with each plane
- Bastard File (10 – 12”).
- Ball Pein hammer.
- Parallel Pin Punch (about 4-5mm Dia) with the nose ground to a slight radius.
- Permanent marker (Marking Blue is traditionally used, but it makes a hell of a mess!).
- Scribe.
- Bevel Gauge/ Angle Gauge.
- Metalworking Vice.
- Masking tape.
- HSS Drills and Drill Press.
- Countersink drill bit, or a Three Square Scraper if you have one.
